Happiness through Movies and Music! 

One hundred blogs about 12 of the finest movie musicals ever made, when I see it in writing, I am impressed by the enormity of the task.

When I began blogging in January 2011, I was not sure I would have enough to say to fill the first 12 - 24 blogs let alone 100!  But it seems my passion for the Classic Movie Musical and my passion for helping people reach their communicative potential have come together beautifully.

When I began writing the manuscript that would become Movies and Music, I chose the Classic Movie Musical as a catalyst to promote communication in my aging clients because I love the genre. I  also believed the simple formula of “boy meets girl, boy gets girl” etc. would be easy for my cognitive-linguistically challenged clients to follow and something to which they could relate.

When I began blogging about these films, I realized they were so much more than their formula, and I had so many insights to share.

Therefore, each year I have built the films around themes to help my friends, and fans find new and innovative ways to share these films with everyone (from older generation clientele to students and intergenerational family members). I have provided character studies to help students explore motivation and recurrent themes of love and friendship. I have chosen the films and scenes which showcase opportunities for language and communication enhancement and engagement with communication partners.

I chose to write Movies and Music and blog about the films monthly because I believe them to be not only great pieces of film history to which everyone should be exposed but significant pieces of our history which weave into the fabric of our lives and fill us with great memories to share.
