HOLIDAY INN

1942

Starring:  Bing Crosby (Jim Hardy), Fred Astaire (Ted Hanover), Marjorie Reynolds (Linda Mason), and Virginia Dale (Lila Dixon)

This classic movie musical features Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire as dancing partners and rivals for the love of Marjorie Reynolds.  Filled with songs for all of the holidays, including a beautiful rendition of “White Christmas” by Bing, this film will have you discussing traditions all year.

It also contains a classic love triangle, which can provide a wide variety discussion topics, including but not limited to:

  • What motivates these characters to act as they do? Love? Jealousy?  Ego?
  • How is each character changed throughout the film?
  • What motivates the ladies’ “catty” behavior?
  • Why doesn’t anyone just talk to the object of his or her affection?

These questions, together with a healthy dose of reminiscence for the older generation, (Bing Crosby, Irving Berlin tunes, references to World War II), should keep the conversation going long after the film ends.
